How you can avoid the New Years trap

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

Every time I start the new year I tell myself “here it comes; time for a healthier me” If you fall under this category than let me suggest something, getting fit and healthy should not be our resolution. Our resolution should be to love ourself enough to be able to play with our children, stop and help our neighbor plant a new tree in spring, and carry someones groeceries to thier car for them. We cannot do that if we don’t love ourselves first. We are more likley to do these things if we are fit and healthy because we will feel better. Usually my new years resolution is all about me, this year it is all about them. Loving yourself enough to get fit and healthy so you can! Happy New Year!

Over eating for the Holidays

Saturday, December 25th, 2010

Not to worry; you have the opportunity to walk away from the temtations of the holidays! Make sure that you just eat what you want to eat in one hour and than stop. Start though with protein and keep carbs toward the end and make sure they are small. If you can, skip the carbs altogether. The reason is that you have insulin helping the breakdown of the food you’ve eatin and once you reintroduce food later say one hour after your main meal your body overloads on insulin to control blood sugar levels. This is the dangerous part of the holidays because your body becomes lethargic. If you have high blood pressure this can really be troublesome because the overload can place extra stress on your cardiovascular system. Have a great Christmas and and contact me with any questions!
